There was a cluster of famous and semi-famous people at one NY party we attended in the late 1980s. When I tell you their names, you probably won't think you know them, but you will. The first one is John Randolph.
You might remember him from You've Got Mail. He played Tom Hanks grandfather, and Dabney Coleman's dad. He's been a character actor for a very long time. His bio is as long as my Uncle Austin's nose. We sat next to each other at this luncheon. He was not too chatty. I had to do all the work. He looked a little bedraggled by the time I got up to mingle. As I walked away, I think I heard him mutter, "Thank God that bitch is done talking".
As I commenced working the room, I spotted Ron Silver, who was sitting all alone at his table. I grabbed the seat next to him just in time for the waiter to serve desserts. We talked all through dessert. Actually, he did most of the talking and was very inquisitive about me and my family. This, of course, was a welcome relief having just come from sitting next to mister grumpy pants.
Here's the picture of Ron and me. Don't we look like we're on a date?
You may have heard that he died in March. It is a shame, since I'm divorced now. Isn't that always how it works out? Now I'm free and he's dead.
I can't stop laughing... the last line is great. You look like all your kids in that picture!

Hello BoggleMama! You are a hoot! I, too, came here from freshvintage - the way she wrote about your new blog, I just HAD to see it! Glad I'm here!
Ron Silver died so young! I can't remember what movie I saw him in, probably in the 80s, that I kinda had a crush on him. I'm sorry for your loss (of a potential famous date). ;D
